In a significant recognition for India’s scientific community, G. K. Dinesh, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at the Central Agricultural University, has been selected as a Lead Author by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for the preparation of the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.
Dr. Dinesh, who is posted at the College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, will contribute to the chapter on carbon dioxide removal under Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use. The chapter focuses on developing scientific methodologies to quantify carbon removal through soil systems and sustainable land management practices.
The selection was made by the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories following nominations from governments and scientific institutions across the world.
As part of the IPCC author team, Dr. Dinesh will participate in a series of international meetings during 2026–2027 and collaborate with leading scientists worldwide in drafting the report. The first Lead Author Meeting is scheduled to be held from April 14 to 16, 2026, at the Food and Agriculture Organization headquarters in Rome.
Originally from Kakkaveri in Rasipuram, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Dinesh obtained his PhD in Environmental Science from the ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. His doctoral research focused on soil organic carbon sequestration, conservation agriculture, greenhouse gas emissions and ecosystem service valuation in agricultural systems.
