Thoubal, July 8: The All Khangabok Labour’s Welfare Union has alleged that agents of PDS items in Khangabok AC have cut down the volume of items given to beneficiaries under PHH and AAY schemes. In a press release the union raised strong objections to the reduction in the quota of PDS items given to the beneficiaries. It claimed that from the month of April 2017 onwards AAY card holders were given only 20 kg of rice each compared to 35 kg given previously while PHH card holders received just 4 kg each instead of the usual 5 kg. When members of the union enquired with the agents on the reasons behind the discrepancies, the latter tried to absolve themselves citing excess expenditure incurred due to bandhs and blockades and looting of PDS items by armed unknown persons. The union went on to appeal to the officials of the department and the general public to cooperate with it in restoring the rightful share of the poor beneficiaries.
