Rani Gaidinlui is a Naga of Manipur – CM
State government today observed the 84th Death Anniversary of Manipuri Martyr Haipou Jadanang. On the occasion Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh unveiled Bronze Statue of the martyr at Jadonang Park located at Keishampat. Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, other Ministers, Parliamentary secretaries and MLAs along with state government officials attended the death Anniversary observance. Besides, paying floral tribute to the martyrs a two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the Manipuri leader born to Zeliangrong community.
Speaking on the occasion, Okram Ibobi Singh said Haipou Jadonang is the son of Manipur while Rani Gaidinliu is the daughter of the soil. He strongly condemns the Central government for setting up of museum and library at Nagaland of Rani Gaidinliu instead of setting up at her birth place at Tamenglong district in Manipur.
“Rani Gaidinliu is not a Naga of Nagaland, but she is a Naga of Manipur”, said Okram Ibobi.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that Jadonnang is not only the leader of Zeliangrong community but he is the leader of all the people of the state.
“He fought for unity of the state during his lifetime”, said Gaikhangam.
He further added that the present government has no differences to any community of the state. He also stated that the statue of the freedom fighter which now stands in the middle of the city at the park will show that Manipur is for all the community of the state. He appealed the people of Manipur to work together for the unity of the state.
Haipou Jadonang was born in 1905 in a Zeliangrong family at Kambiron village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. His movement against Britishers spread like wildfire and engulfed the whole Zeliangrong areas. Jadonang was later hung to death in 1931 at the present Haipou Jadonang Park located at Keishampat here in Imphal.
