Imphal, Nov 18:
Several key office bearers and executive members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jiribam Mandal have resigned, citing the deteriorating situation in both Jiribam and Manipur as a whole. Led by the President of BJP Jiribam Mandal, the group submitted their resignation letters on November 15, 2024, expressing deep concern over the current political and social climate in the region. They stated that the party’s failure to address the issues affecting the local community and the broader state has left them feeling “unwelcome and helpless.”
The members who resigned include the President, K. Jodu Singh; Vice President, MK. Badain; General Secretary, Mutum Hemanta Singh; General Secretary of Organization, P. Biramani Singh; and other prominent members such as Mutum Brojendro Singh, Th. Meghajit Singh, Arambam Aruna, and L Chaoba Singh. In their resignation letter, the group urged the party leadership to accept their decision and expressed their gratitude for the opportunities they had while serving in the party.
The resignations come amid rising tensions in Manipur, where the BJP-led government has faced increasing criticism over its handling of unrest and ethnic tensions. Political observers suggest that this mass resignation could signal growing dissatisfaction with the party’s governance and its failure to resolve the ongoing crisis in the state. The BJP leadership in Manipur has yet to comment on the matter.
