Imphal, Nov 18:

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Student’s Front has called for the immediate termination of Senior Superintendent of Police (Combat) Colonel (Retd.) Nectar Sanjenbam following the alleged killing of a young protester, Khundrakpam Athouba Ningthouja, in Jiribam.
Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei, a prominent leader of the COCOMI Student’s Front, condemned the actions of SSP Nectar Sanjenbam, describing the shooting of the unarmed 22-year-old as an unforgivable act of brutality. “Senior SP Combat Nectar Sanjenbam must be terminated from service immediately,” he stated during a press briefing.
COCOMI’s Student Front leader Ningthoujam Dhanakumar further criticized Sanjenbam’s appointment, stating that while he was brought in as a special appointee to serve the people, he has failed to fulfill this role. “It has become clear that, as a retired Indian Army officer, his true colors have emerged, and they are completely against the Meitei people,” Ningthoujam Dhanakumar said. “He has a record of atrocities against Meiteis during his service in the Indian Army. Action must be taken against him. What is happening in the state is clearly a proxy war,” he added.
The incident occurred during a peaceful protest in Jiribam against the recent abduction and killing of six women and children in Borobekra Sub-Division. Eyewitnesses reported that tensions escalated when the officer confronted the crowd, eventually opening fire, fatally shooting Khundrakpam Athouba, and injuring another protester.
Public outrage over the killing has been widespread, with protests intensifying in Jiribam and spreading to Imphal, where angry mobs attempted to storm the officer’s residence. Police have since secured Nectar Sanjenbam’s home, preventing acts of vandalism.
