BJP Govt failed to respond to MP’s Lok Sabha notice: Shanjoy Ahanthem

Social worker Shanjoy Ahanthem has criticised the BJP-led government at the Centre for allegedly failing to respond to a notice raised by Inner Manipur MP Professor Bimol Akoijam under Rule 377 of the Lok Sabha.

According to Shanjoy, Bimol Akoijam submitted the notice on August 7 during the Lok Sabha session held from July 20 to August 13, raising issues related to the terms and conditions of the tripartite Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements with armed groups and their compliance status. The notice also sought that the details be placed in the public domain.

It further raised concerns over alleged illegal extortion along highways and national highways and called for action against any SoO-affiliated armed group found involved in illegal activities, including possible abrogation of the SoO agreement.

Shanjoy also referred to the alleged involvement of KNF (P), an SoO signatory, in the killing of six Liangmei civilians, reportedly a matter raised by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho.

He alleged that despite 55 days having passed, the Ministry of Home Affairs had not responded to the notice, which he claimed was contrary to parliamentary practice concerning replies to matters raised under Rule 377.

Shanjoy questioned the Centre’s commitment to parliamentary democracy when an issue raised by an elected MP concerning Manipur had allegedly remained unanswered.

He urged the people of Manipur to consider the prevailing situation while making their choice in the forthcoming 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
