Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi Singh, Cabinet members, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP, Army Officers and other civil and police officers paid befitting tribute to departed soul of Governor, Dr. Syed Ahmed, who passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness.
During a condolence meeting, Chaired by the Chief Minister today at the Conference Hall of the Manipur Secretariat South Block on the demise of the Governor of Manipur Dr. Syed Ahmed, floral tributes were also paid to the photograph of the late Dr. Syed Ahmed by all the dignitaries present led by the Chief Minister.
They also observed a two minutes silence in honour of the departed leader.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh while expressing his condolences on the sudden demise of the Governor of Manipur Dr. Syed Ahmed said Dr. Ahmed was an eminent leader having great personality who held many positions right from his election as an MLA to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five times.
He also served as a Minister in Maharashtra and was the Governor of Jharkhand prior to being appointed as the Governor of Manipur on May 16 this year.
O Ibobi Singh also mentioned that PHED Minister I Hemochandra Singh, who is in Delhi will be attending the last rites of the late Dr. Syed Ahmed which is being held today in Mumbai as a representative of the Manipur Government.
He himself along with Deputy Chief Minister wanted to join the funeral but because of the unavailability of any flight service from Imphal to reach Mumbai in time for attending the last rites he advised Minister I Hemochandra and some officials of the Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi to attend, CM added.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Lokeshwar Singh has also expressed his condolence over the death of the Governor.
“I express my deep and profound sorrow over the untimely demise of Dr Syed Ahmed, the Governor of Manipur. May his soul rest in peace in heavenly abode,” said the Speaker in his message.
He also shared the grief of his family members and loved ones with love and sympathy.
