Our honourable governor, His Excellency, Dr. Sayed Ahmed passed away yesterday noon before completing his term. His demise is condoles by each and every citizen of the country. Manipur Government too expressing deep shock over his demise has declare state holiday today besides paying a three days’ mourning as a mark of respect to  his Excellency. As notified by the state government a condolence meeting was paid to the great leader at Old Secretariat office today morning. From Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh to all VVIPs of the state government attended the condolence meeting. I. Hemochandra , the vibrant Minister of the Obobi government has also been sent to represent the state government to attend the funeral ceremony to be performed at Mumbai.
Dr. Sayed Ahmed was sworn in as the 16th governor of Manipur on May 16 2015. He serves the post for a mere period of 4 months. During the period the head of the government had witness the worst crisis in the state of Manipur. According to individuals and civil society representatives who went to meet him either to submit memorandum or plead to deliver justice, he health condition was not sound in the last 2 months when Manipur was in fire both by the demand for implementation of ILPS and later by a series of protest against the passing of the three government Bills for implementation of the ILPS. The 4 months of his governorship was also one of the worst periods as there are probability of facing more crises after the government of India signed a frame work agreement with the NSCN-IM without consulting the Chief Ministers of the Northeast state.
Born on March 6, 1945, Dr. Sayed Ahmed began his career as a real congress man and before appointing him as governor he was elected many a times as Congress legislatures in Maharastra State Assembly.
There is no doubt that no men are immortal, each and everyone of us will have to die one day. But died with honour is what every human being aspiring. His Excellency, Dr. Sayed Ahmed left us all, He died with honours while being on the top post of a state which is full of crisis.
Now, the center will sent another governor – may be from among the congress or from among the BJP. And with the way the NDA government led by BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is sure that, the Center will sent a person with BJP or RSS background to field the vacancy.
This is expectable by all and what is worried is the fate of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi once a pro-BJP individual is appointed as the Governor of the state.
Ibobi is already having tough time with the kind of protest being underway at both hill and valley district. For reason that is not clear 4 NPF MLAs had tender their resignation. The MLAs did not mention any reason to their resignation letter, but through media they said they resigned as they are against the passing of the 3 government Bills to implement the ILPS. Interestingly the 3 Bills were passed on August 31 in the presence of the 4 NPF MLAs and non among them had raised any objection to the passing of the Bill. There were also rumours about some other MLAs and Minister tendering resignation which was not true at all.
Amidst this there are rumours about disappointment among various congress MLAs who were not offered ministerial berth. These MLAs had already spoken about their plan to join BJP even though it was not official.
May be during Sayed Ahmad periods, he might have not sent all detail report of what has been happening in the state so that center may not directly interfere to the affairs of the state. If a new governor – supposed to be a pro BJP is appointed to field the highest post then sure Mr. Okram Ibobi would certainly have more additional problem.
The untimely demise of our governor, his Excellency- Dr. Sayed Ahmed is very unfortunate for the state of Manipur besides his family members.
