Imphal, April 10:
A One Day Awareness Programme on Eco-tourism and Home Stay was held today at Lambung Public Community Hall, organised by Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel. The programme was attended by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel as Chief Guest, Lunghi Noah, Chief of Lambung as President and Dy. Alam, former Chief of Lambung as Guest of Honour.
Dr. N. Munal Meitei highlighted the immense natural beauty and ecological wealth of Chandel district, which he said has remained underutilized. He noted that the stretch of villages from Pallel to Chandel, including those in the interior, possess vast potential for eco-tourism development.
He expressed concern that despite the scenic landscapes, these areas have not been presented effectively to visitors, resulting in missed opportunities for tourism-driven growth. To initiate change, he informed that the Forest Department is launching its first eco-tourism project at the Ralhlam Lon hillocks under Payer Mount in Lambung village.
Dr. Munal expressed hope that with proper development and beautification, the village can emerge as a prominent eco-tourism destination and appealed to the people to extend their cooperation in developing Payer Mount into an Eco-Tourism spot.
