The Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has announced a total shutdown on October 15, 2023, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. October 15 was the day Manipur was merged with the Indian Union in 1949.
A statement by S. Mangal, Publicity Committee Convenor of ASUK said that during the total shutdown called, Medical, media, and religious services will be exempted.
The statement by ASUK said that Manipur obtained sovereignty from the British in August 1947, but independent Manipur was forced to sign a merger agreement and thus became part of the Indian Dominion on October 15, 1949.
The hatred between Manipur’s people began on the day the erstwhile nation was merged with the Indian Union, and it is now apparent that Indian rule has proven to be a noose around our neck that is tightening all the time.
“We have become demographically outnumbered, politically marginalized and disintegrated, economically reliant and pauperized, socially disorganized and divided, morally deteriorated, bastardized and treacherous, and psychologically diffident and vacillating. National doom is staring us down. We are no longer in a position to combat any issues that come our way; instead, we have to bow our heads before others seek help. All of these are the effects of the merging with India,” the statement said.
