The Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), a proscribed organization, has expressed its deep condolences over the passing of Porei Leimrol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur’s President, Memchoubi. The group recognized her unparalleled contributions in championing human rights and in relentlessly advocating for the protection of Manipur and its denizens across numerous issues spanning decades. She has, over the years, exemplified courage and tenacity amidst daunting challenges, RPF said.
A press statement released by the organization echoed the sentiments of many, as it extolled Memchoubi’s dedication and leadership. “The tireless Ima Memchouba was at the forefront of both minor and major issues, treating each cause as her own.
She poured her heart into fostering a brighter future for Manipur, guiding young leaders along the way,” the statement read.
Highlighting her immense contribution to the state, the RPF revisited the history of the Meira Paibi movement, which has been active since the early 1980s. The movement emerged as a beacon of hope against the atrocities carried out under the guise of the Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act.
The release said: “During dark times when innocent individuals, both men and women, were victimized by security forces – with numerous accounts of unjust killings, arrests, and disappearances – brave women of the movement, torch in hand, took to the streets in defense of the vulnerable.”
“In the valiant endeavors of the Meira Paibi movement, Ima Memchoubi played an instrumental role alongside Ima Kombi, unwavering in her commitment to the welfare of the people of Manipur,” the press note added.
In its conclusion, the RPF expressed its profound respect and honor for Ima Memchoubi, emphasizing her tireless efforts to safeguard the state in various capacities. “Without ever showing signs of weariness, Ima championed the cause of protecting our beloved motherland, Manipur, on countless occasions. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of our cherished motherland,” the organization concluded.
