The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Police have sealed off the Kalanagar area in Bandra East, in North West Mumbai, home to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, after a tea vendor tested positive for Covid-19.
The tea seller tested positive after showing symptoms like cough, fever and cold for the last few days. He has been admitted at the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Hospital in Jogeshwari in North Mumbai. Since Thackeray’s security staff and police personnel deployed at his private residence “Matoshree” have been frequenting the tea stall, authorities are in the process of making all of them to undergo required tests to assess whether they too are infected. Around 50 personnel from the CM’s staff including his bodyguards, gardening staff, police forces deployed at his private residence are believed to have visited the tea stall.
As a precautionary measure, BMC has sealed the entire area and imposed restrictions on all kind of movement. It has pasted a notice in the area, warning that action will be taken against violators. The BMC has disinfected the area to avoid probable spread of the coronavirus.
“The tea seller was not feeling well for the last four days. On Sunday he was admitted to hospital and underwent the test. He tested positive for novel coronavirus and has been kept in an isolation ward, Deputy Director, BMC’s health department Dr Daksha Shah said and added that each and every person who came in contact with the tea vendor will be tested for possible symptoms.
Basically the official residence of the CM is at “Varsha” in South Mumbai. However Thackeray has been operating from both the places and prefers to handle the work from “Matoshri”.
In another development BMC has temporarily sealed off two private hospitals following detection of active Covid 19 cases. Three doctors and 26 nurses tested positive in
Wockhardt Hospital located at Mumbai Central and 10 staff members including nurses tested positive in Jaslok Hospital in South Mumbai.
In the meanwhile, with 23 new cases recorded on Tuesday, the number of active Covid 19 patients, has climbed to 891 in Maharashtra. A total of 52 people have died of coronavirus in the state so far.)
