Meitei Alliance demand abrogation of Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact

The Meitei Alliance has urged the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) tripartite agreement with Kuki armed groups if violations of the pact’s ground rules are established.

In a statement, the Alliance rejected attempts by the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF) to dismiss allegations of systematic violence and desertion of designated camps.

It said the JMG should determine whether cadres left designated camps, carried weapons into conflict zones or participated in violence, adding that allegations against other groups do not absolve KNO and UPF members of accountability.

The Alliance also demanded public disclosure of monitoring reports, investigations and action taken over alleged violations of the updated 2025 ground rules. It called for cases involving murder, extortion, abduction and attacks on civilians or security personnel to be dealt with under applicable Indian laws.

It further urged the Centre to invoke relevant legal provisions if inquiries establish that any faction under the ceasefire meets the legal threshold for designation as a terrorist organisation.

Rejecting demands for partition, the Alliance said violence-induced demographic changes and segregation should not be used to justify a separate Union Territory or permanent political boundaries, stressing that the territorial unity of Manipur must be maintained.
