AR responds to allegations regarding Security Operations in Kamjong

IT News
Imphal, May 21:

The Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) has issued a response to recent allegations raised in an article published “by the Imphal Times on May 19, 2024” titled “Kamjong Border Town under siege: Daily activities come to a grinding halt Ukhrul Journalists witness escalation of tensions and unrest.”
In the statement addressed to the Editor of Imphal Times, the Assam Rifles refuted claims made in the article, asserting that the portrayal of the situation in Kamjong was unduly alarming and overlooked the crucial role of the Armed Forces in maintaining security and stability in the region.
The Assam Rifles emphasized their long-standing mandate to safeguard India’s northeastern borders and stated that the deployment of armed forces in Kamjong, Manipur, was essential to prevent infiltration, contraband movement, and arms trafficking. They highlighted the influx of refugees from Myanmar into border villages, which raised concerns about insurgents potentially infiltrating disguised as refugees.
The response refuted allegations of AR personnel crossing borders and using quadcopters to drop bombs, labeling such claims as baseless. They reiterated that security patrols conducted by AR and other forces were impartial and focused on upholding peace and security in the region.
Unfortunately the Assam Rifles has failed to read the report in depth since the mentioned Imphal Times report was published on May 18, 2024.
