Imphal, Jan 3:
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has clarified that his recent apology regarding the Manipur crisis was directed solely at the victims of the conflict and not at terrorists. The Chief Minister’s remarks came in response to criticisms from the Congress party during a media interaction at the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony of newly appointed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Expressing optimism about the appointment of Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Governor, the Chief Minister praised his administrative expertise. “I know Bhalla ji very well. He is highly experienced and has held many significant positions in the Government of India. His appointment as Governor shows the central government’s serious concern for solving Manipur’s issues. I hope he will play a pivotal role in restoring peace, which remains the top priority,” Singh said.
Earlier, Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra criticised the Chief Minister’s apology, calling it an admission of the government’s failure. “By apologising to the people, CM Biren Singh has acknowledged the failure of the double-engine government. What will be the future course of action? Violence continues, and the people of Manipur deserve accountability,” Keisham Meghachandra said during a programme on Wednesday.
CM Biren Singh alleged that the Congress party was responsible for the ongoing crisis in the state, accusing them of being unwilling to foster peace and normalcy. “The Congress party can say anything. They can even claim that the sun is the moon. My recent apology was to the victims who have lost loved ones and to the displaced persons. Why should I apologise to terrorists?” Singh stated.
Regarding the ongoing conflict, CM Biren Singh acknowledged its complexity but urged patience and trust in the central government. “The central government has implemented 60-70% of the people’s demands. Resolving this issue will take time, but the government is committed to the task,” he added.
