Bishnupur, April 12:
In observance of World Red Cross Day 2025, an extensive anti-rabies vaccination and awareness campaign was conducted today across various locations in Bishnupur District. The initiative was jointly organized by the District Veterinary Office, Bishnupur, and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bishnupur District Branch, with active support from local clubs and community organizations.
The campaign was formally launched in the presence of Lourembam Bikram, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur and President of the IRCS Bishnupur District Branch, along with Dr. Tongbram Bidyarani, Joint Director of the District Veterinary Office.
The program aimed to immunize dogs against rabies and raise public awareness about the disease. Veterinary Officer Dr. L. Arjun, IRCS Manipur State Branch Executive Member H. Sotojit, IRCS Bishnupur District Branch Secretary Dr. H. Romen, JRC/YRC Coordinator RK Nabakumar, and Life Members O. Brojen, T. Stephen, M. Ahongjao, and O. Rajendro were among the key participants.
The drive was conducted in multiple Assembly Constituencies of the district. In Nambol A/C, the vaccination drive was held at Lourembam with the support of the Sports & Human Resources Development Association (SHRDA). In Kumbi A/C, teams covered Wangoo Parking, Wangoo Ahallup, Wangoo Sandangkhong, and neighboring areas, in collaboration with clubs like Sandangkhong Khongkha Youth Club (SKYC), 11 Star Youth Club, Sandangkhong Mayai Leikai, and the Sandangkhong Social Welfare Club (SSWC). Two vaccination sites were also set up at Ithai Laikhong.
Similarly, the campaign reached Ningthoukhong Ward Nos. 2 and 3 in Bishnupur A/C, Ngangkhalawai in Moirang A/C, and two locations on Karang Island in Thanga A/C. Vaccination camps were held to immunize dogs and engage with the public on the importance of rabies prevention.
