Imphal, Dec 28:
Sumati Sougrakpam, General Secretary of the All Manipur Students Guardians’ Organisation (AMSGO), has urged employees of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) to reconsider their ongoing indefinite pen-down strike in light of the upcoming Class X board examinations scheduled for February 19, 2025.
The strike, which began on December 13, demands the removal of Akham Joykumar Singh from his position. However, the continuous strike has raised concerns about the smooth conduct of the Class X board exams, crucial for the academic progression of thousands of students. AMSGO has appealed to BOSEM employees to prioritize the welfare of students by resuming work and ensuring an uninterrupted examination process.
AMSGO emphasized the public nature of the Class X board exams, which involve meticulous preparation and coordination. The organization highlighted that any disruption could severely impact the examination schedule and compromise its integrity. “The examination process is not just about conducting exams but involves a long chain of preparation, including printing, logistics, and evaluation. A strike during this critical period could jeopardize all efforts,” AMSGO stated.
The organization also called on the government to address the grievances of BOSEM employees urgently, ensuring their demands are heard and appropriate solutions implemented. It expressed concern over the perception of BOSEM being politicized, urging both the Board and the state government to act impartially and focus on their responsibility to the students.
AMSGO noted that as the body responsible for conducting public examinations, BOSEM has a significant role in maintaining academic standards. It urged employees to recognize the broader impact of their actions and resume their duties, at least temporarily, to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Class X examinations.
The indefinite strike, currently grabbing headlines in both electronic and print media, has also sparked public debate. AMSGO warned that prolonged disruptions could damage the credibility of the Board and diminish public trust in its operations.
Reiterating its appeal, AMSGO called for an immediate suspension of the strike until after the examinations, urging all stakeholders to ensure a fair and smooth process for the benefit of the students and the education system.
