Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has hailed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on becoming the longest-serving Union Home Minister in the history of independent India. In a post shared on social media platform ‘X’ on Monday, Biren Singh described the milestone as a reflection of “trust, vision and unmatched commitment to the nation.”
Shah’s tenure has now surpassed that of notable figures such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and L.K. Advani, marking what Biren Singh called not just a record but a historic moment with direct implications for Manipur.
Reflecting on Shah’s contributions to the state, the former Chief Minister noted that the Manipur People’s Army, previously unwilling to participate in peace talks, agreed to negotiations for the first time under Shah’s tenure. Similarly, dialogue was initiated with the Zeliangrong United Front, creating new possibilities for reconciliation in the region.
He also credited the Home Minister for encouraging more insurgents to surrender and join the mainstream, strengthening public trust in the peace process.
Biren Singh further highlighted the Centre’s support for the state’s “War on Drugs” campaign, stating that Shah’s backing helped intensify the fight against narco-terrorism. He called the Home Minister’s decision to fence the entire northeast stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border a “historic step,” adding that work on the ground has already begun, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people in the region.
On the matter of illegal immigration, the former Chief Minister praised Shah’s continued efforts to protect the cultural and demographic identity of Manipur.
Describing Shah as a strategic, courageous and compassionate leader, N. Biren Singh termed him a “modern Chanakya” who has shaped not just national policies but also the course of regional development. He concluded the message by expressing optimism for a new chapter of unity, stability and development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
