While the global target for Tuberculosis (TB) elimination is set for 2030, India has set an ambitious goal to eradicate the disease by 2025. To achieve this, public support and understanding is crucial alongside the efforts of medical professionals. This was stated by Yumnam Radheshyam, MLA of Hiyanglam AC during the 44th World Tuberculosis Day 2025, organized by the District Health Society and the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Kakching. The event was held at the Langmeidong Dramatic Union hall under the theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.”
MLA Radheshyam highlighted the importance of educating people about TB, including its causes, modes of transmission, symptoms, treatment options, and availability of free medication. He further stressed that widespread awareness is essential for successful eradication.
The event was attended by Dr. Thaodem Rajen, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kakching; Dr. Y. Jotshna, District Leprosy Officer, Kakching, Oinam Pushpa, DPM, DHS Kakching, N. Surbala, STS, NTEP Kakching, and O. Sulochana, DFM, DHS Kakching. Staff members of the District Health Society and ASHA workers also participated the programme
As part of the programme, TB survivors from the district shared their experiences, encouraging others to seek timely treatment. Certificates were also distributed to participants of the 100-day intensified TB elimination campaign by District Health Society, National Tuberculosis Elimination programme for successfully completing the programme at 13 Primary Health Sub Centres, now known as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
