Imphal, Aug 7:
The Headmen of 36 villages in Ukhrul have strongly condemned the false allegations and misinterpretations of MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur’s recent parliamentary speech by “Meitei Leepun” and “My Manipur.” The accusations, which claim that MP Arthur is “openly advocating for the destructive agenda of illegal immigrant Kukis in the Indian Parliament and elsewhere,” are described as unfounded and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
The village leaders emphasized that these allegations are not only ill-intentioned but also undemocratic. They highlighted MP Arthur’s unwavering commitment to the development and peace of the entire state of Manipur, encompassing both Hill and Valley regions. The claims by “Meitei Leepun” that MP Arthur does not support the government’s efforts to protect indigenous people are seen as blatant distortions of his stance. The call for a social boycott of MP Arthur from July 31, 2024, by “Meitei Leepun” and “My Manipur” is deemed inflammatory and unjustified, risking unnecessary harassment.
In his speech, MP Arthur pointed out that Manipur has the lowest per capita income and the highest inflation in the country. He highlighted the severe impact of unprecedented floods and ongoing violence in the state, demanding an equal budget allocation for the region as a right. As an opposition MP, he proposed measures to bring peace to the 15-month conflict, including changing the Chief Minister of Manipur. MP Arthur also called for the inclusion of tourism development in the North East, emphasizing its potential to drive economic growth. His speech, according to the Headmen, cannot be interpreted as expressing favoritism for one community while advocating hatred for another.
The Headmen urged all concerned citizens to reject the false allegations made by “Meitei Leepun” and “My Manipur.” They affirmed that MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur represents the entire state of Manipur and that any attempts to twist and misinterpret his words only serve to hinder peace and unity. The village leaders called upon the people of Manipur to uphold democratic values over fascism, recognizing MP Arthur as a dedicated parliamentarian committed to peace, development, and harmonious coexistence in the state.
