It has come to light that paddy fields covering around 200 acres belonging to Awang Sekmai have been currently occupied by Kuki militants. Ayangbam Suresh, representing the Awang Sekmai UCM unit, has highlighted the plight of around 200 acres of paddy fields falling victim to this occupation, emphasizing the failure of promised compensation for the loss incurred due to last year’s conflict.
Khwairkpam Ibodi, Vice President of the Awang Sekmai UCM Unit, has shed light on the historical significance of these paddy fields, which belong to Imphal West revenue district and lie adjacent to Kangpokpi. These fields are integral to the livelihoods of local communities but have now fallen under the control of Kuki militants. Additionally, Ibodi expressed concern over the illegal occupation of hills belonging to Awang Sekmai, which have significant religious and cultural value.
The appeal to the government for increased security presence to safeguard both the paddy fields and hills reflects the pressing need for intervention to restore normalcy and protect the rights of the local populace.
