16th National Voters’ Day celebrated across Manipur

District administrations across Manipur joined the nation in celebrating the 16th National Voters’ Day today under the theme “My India, My Vote” with the tagline “Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy.” The observance aimed to strengthen democratic participation, particularly among young and first-time voters.
In Imphal West, the District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner hosted the celebration at the DC Office Complex. Addressing the gathering, the DEO/DC highlighted a painting competition organized for students from various Assembly Constituencies, noting the creativity and expression of participants on themes of elections and democracy. He encouraged children to participate in such events and to enroll as voters upon reaching the age of 18, emphasizing the importance of exercising their right to vote.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner-II stressed the significance of National Voters’ Day in reminding citizens of their electoral rights. Noting that Imphal West has a high literacy rate yet lags in voter enrollment, he urged officials to maintain consistent efforts and called on citizens to actively participate in elections to make democracy meaningful.
As part of the celebrations, a Voters’ Pledge was administered, and cash prizes and certificates were awarded to winners of the painting competition, along with special and consolation prizes for other participants. An interaction session with students and newly enrolled voters was also conducted.
Kangpokpi district observed the day at the Multi-purpose Hall, SH-ADC, with the Deputy Commissioner delivering the keynote address. He highlighted the complexity of the Indian electoral system and encouraged first-time voters to secure their voter identity cards, ensuring accuracy of personal details. Best Booth Level Officer awards were presented to outstanding BLOs from the district’s three Assembly Constituencies.
In Jiribam, the observance at the DC Office Conference Hall emphasized the significance of voting as a national duty and a vital element of nation-building. Initiatives for Persons with Disabilities, including ramps and wheelchairs, were highlighted, and a quiz competition involving local school teams was conducted. Newly enrolled voters and exemplary students were recognized.
Similar celebrations took place in Pherzawl, Senapati, Thoubal, and Tamenglong districts. Officials underscored the importance of ethical voter participation, accurate electoral rolls, and inclusive practices. Caps and T-shirts were distributed to newly enrolled voters, and the Voters’ Pledge was administered across all districts. Best Booth Level Officers were recognized for their contributions to ensuring free and fair elections.
