While the world’s largest expo has been going on in Dubai since last month, the International Trade Fair has commenced at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Many countries of the world are actively participating in the Dubai Expo. New technology is being showcased at the 6-month long mega exhibition, which actually paints a picture of tomorrow. Hundreds of robots make the Dubai expo unique. A robot welcomes the visitors at the gate. On the other hand, the entry of the general public in Delhi’s World Trade Fair will be from November 19 to 27, for which tickets will be available at select 65 metro railway stations. The first five days are reserved for traders. Both the fairs are international in nature, but one is running in the clean air of Dubai, while the other has begun in the highly polluted air of Delhi. There is a problem of pollution in the capital this year, but last year it got cancelled due to Covid pandemic. According to British travel TV presenter, Alex Outhwaite, who visits India very often, there are 192 pavilions at the Dubai Expo. “In the evening when the expo is fully illuminated with lights, it is a wonderful opportunity to see cultural concerts from different countries. The architecture of the pavilions is impressive. When I went there the focus was on climate and biodiversity,” said Alex.
Face saving exercise: You must be aware that Facebook has changed its corporate identity to ‘Meta’. The name of their apps – Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will remain the same in future also. Instead of just Facebook, the parent company will now be known as ‘Meta’. Facebook has been facing a lot of criticism around the world for a long time. It was accused of putting the privacy of users at stake and also for spreading fake news or illegally influencing the elections in democratic countries. In order to get out of this huge PR crisis, the company thought it wise to change the name, so that the attention of the people could get diverted.
Many other brands have also made this clever move earlier also. Dunkin’ Donuts took the name Donuts off the name and began promoting its drinks to give a boost to its business. After several lawsuits over Philip Morris, its cigarettes earned a bad name, the company changed its brand name to Altria Group in frustration. Google changed the name of the parent company to Alphabet in 2015 to differentiate its less profitable segment. In 1998, British Petroleum Plc bought the US company Amoco under the name BP Amoco and after some time changed its name to just BP. When Weight Watchers Company decided to move from weight loss business to wellness, it changed its name to WW. When pancake maker IHOP started making Steak Burger, it changed its brand name to IHOB, where B means burger.
NV Mantra: The last one and a half year has been difficult for everyone. Thus, events such as the Dubai Expo and the International Trade Fair of Delhi, though delayed, are bringing people together in a safe way and celebrating world cultures.
