The democratic protest being spearheaded by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) is trying to malign by some vested interested persons in the name of supporting the agitation. From the last couple of days the leaders of the JCILPS has been appealing the strike supporters to make free way for those in the essential service like media, medicals, water supply and electricity. However, just as the JCILPS called 48 hours general strike some people came out and started placing electric poles, trees, glasses and other stuffs in the middle of the road preventing almost all vehicles. At some places some few strike supporters under the influence of intoxicants used harsh language to the passer-by. Even the doctors/hospital staffs who were on duty and media persons were not spared. Yesterday, many newspaper reporters’ complaints about the hardship they met. The same is being received from those in the medical professions too. The strike is called by the JCILPS and is supported by the people. But if the strike supporters do not follow what the JCILPS has directed then the ongoing agitation is surely going to be landed in trouble.
For one reason people all across the state seem to have forgotten that media is playing a very crucial role in any of the mass agitations. It has been reminded time and again that media is the bridge between the government and the people. This perhaps has been forgotten by the strike supporters. There were many instances that strike supporters stopped media persons from attending to their duty. They were making a mockery and sometimes they were asked to leave their vehicles on the roadside.
These are unhealthy situation. At this crucial hours each and every citizens have to understand the role being played by media as well the doctors and hospital staffs.
When we say media, it is not only about those reporters who were seen going with camera for news coverage. To publish a newspaper, a media house need sections of people including the DTP operators, the desk editor, machine men etc. and to distribute the news newspaper, hawkers are playing the main role. So if any of those in the media house were prevented from attending their newspaper offices the newspaper has to automatically stop publication. Likewise, if a nurse or hospital attendance or the pharmacist has been shut down then definitely the patient waiting at the hospital has to suffer.
Not every strike supporters are going the wrong way but there are definitely some people who are creating all these trouble. Their intention is clear, and the JCILPS and those people who really care for this agitation being spearheaded by JILPS should check it and picked out those trouble maker before they sabotage the peoples’ democratic movement.
