While welcoming the recent peace accord signed between Central Government and NSCN (IM), Congress legislature of Sagolband Assembly Constituency, Rajkumar Imo Singh has stated that the agreement should not hurt the sentiment of another state.
On asked about the agreement, RK Imo Singh stated, “Any person would welcome a peace agreement in the peace-starving region. However, such a peace agreement should not be at the expense of another state.”
It is unfortunate that the Central Government headed by Narendra Modi did not think fit enough to even consult the state Government before the implementation of such an agreement which is also very important and sensitive to the people of Manipur, said the MLA.
He also informed that the Central Government has still not even informed the State Government regarding the contents of the agreement despite being signed three days back. Though having not seen the agreement, it would be a presumption to talk about it; nevertheless such an agreement should not in any way hurt the sentiments of the people of Manipur.
The people of Manipur have not forgotten what happened in June 2001, which was also headed by a government similar to the one who is heading right in New Delhi, he added.
The MLA further stated that no stone will be left unturned to save the state if the agreement is found unwarranted for the people of the state and would even go to New Delhi to pressurise the concerned authorities and to do as per the wishes of the people even if it means resigning from being an MLA.
Regarding the ongoing movement for introduction of Inner Liner Permit System in Manipur, RK Imo said that the Drafting Committee headed by Devendra Singh has submitted the recommendation to the State Government on August 4, 2015. He further said that most of the MLAs have already requested the State Government to implement the recommendation submitted by the Drafting Committee at the earliest and if possible before the deadline.
“It would be ideal if members from the JCILPS along with members of the social organisations, legal experts, media and other bodies see the draft bill and give suggestions to improve the bill before it is presented in the Assembly,” the MLA said.
In support of the ongoing demand for permit system in Manipur, the MLA also staged a sit-in-protest along with volunteers of SYDA Club, Bijoy Govinda Mamang Leikai at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda on Thursday.
While attending the protest demonstration, the MLA welcomed the rallies which came to meet him and accepted the memorandums submitted by women bodies of Sagolband Meino Leirak Apunba Nupi Lup and Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai Nupi Lup.
