State government’s claims about the restoration of peace in the over 5 months long crisis in the state has failed to relieve the people of the state as what people are witnessing in the ground are far from truth. In addition to the deadly clashed that sparked since May 3, at Manipur Churachandpur district, Manipur today sees emergence of hooligans with sophisticated weapons engaging in looting, extortions, attempt to kidnap and creating fear psychosis among the common people. There are reports of armed miscreants roaming anywhere, anytime in the high security areas in Imphal area. Now, with the crisis crossing over 5 months, with no idea of finding a solution, it is skeptical for the people whether or not to believe in the government’s claim about the restoration peace.
If today’s Manipur has been surged to merely 700 sq Km which some of the leaders and advisors of the armed Kuki militants who have been desperately trying to disrupt peaceful co-existence by inciting venoms among the people and ultimately by putting forward their agenda of distorting the erstwhile nation, definitely there is no wrong to say that peace has returned, state government by using any means have started taking up development works. And today, the state cabinet under the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh conducted a successful cabinet meeting in Ukhrul district headquarter for the first time in his second term. It is no surprise that all CSOs, Women’s body and people of Ukhrul organized a rousing welcome for Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his cabinet colleagues.
The kind of initiatives and the much-a-like peaceful atmosphere cannot be overridden as everyone knows that the world cannot be at standstill no matter a disastrous earthquake or any deadly natural phenomenon occurred at some part of the world. Saying so people expects priority given to the immediate wounds which need immediate healing touch. These expectations of the people, (leaving aside the people of Ukhrul), have been skipped while delivering speech during today public meeting by the Chief Minister and his colleagues.
The fact today is that every sections of the society in deep anguish, desperation, despondency, discouragement, gloomy, and melancholy. It is not only the Kuki-zo community and the Meitei alone that is being affected by the ongoing crisis, but either in one way or the other almost all the 35 indigenous community of Manipur has been severely affected.
While initiating required and essential works for the welfare of the people, the idea should be of inclusive growth for all people. This conflict will end one day. And every work taken up should also leave no stone unturned for an inclusive development. The throne though small become septic and become a major problem for the whole body if not removed in time.
Let peace prevail.
Has peace really restored
