Imphal, May 7:

The Federation of Haomee has issued a stark condemnation of the continuous assaults and intimidation faced by the Kom Community at the hands of armed Kuki militants, expressing profound concern over the worsening situation.
In a released statement, the Federation brought attention to the severe challenges encountered by the Kom Community due to relentless attacks and intimidation tactics employed by the militants. Notably, these assaults are not limited to the Meitei people but also target the Kom community, with villagers enduring physical assaults, indiscriminate firing upon their villages, and ongoing extortion activities.
According to the president of Haomee, on May 4, at approximately 8 pm, heavily armed suspected cadres of KNF (MC), under the leadership of its commander German, unleashed a barrage of gunfire at Ichum Kom Keirak Village. Subsequently, they abducted a 58-year-old individual from the Kom community, K. T. Kom, subjecting him to physical assault before departing. This incident, the statement emphasized, is not isolated, as there have been previous instances of Kuki militants terrorizing Kom villagers. Consequently, Manipur Police have provided security to the affected community.
Haomee has called upon the Manipur government to swiftly implement measures ensuring the protection of the smaller indigenous community. The Federation’s statement underscores the pressing need for action to address the dire situation faced by the Kom Community, emphasizing the imperative of protection and security measures to prevent further harm. Additionally, it demands accountability and justice for those responsible for perpetrating such reprehensible acts of violence and intimidation.
Standing in solidarity with the Kom Community amidst adversity, the Federation of Haomee urges authorities to take prompt and decisive action to quell the violence and guarantee the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
