Several regional political parties in Manipur have joined hands to form the Manipur Regional Political Parties Co-ordinating Committee, seeking a common platform for consultation, coordination and joint action on issues affecting the state.
The decision was announced at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal following the second Consultative Meeting of Regional Political Parties of Manipur, facilitated by the Manipur Alliance for Economic and Financial Reforms (MAMEF).
Senior advocate and MAMEF Advisor Khaidem Mani said the meeting brought together representatives of the People’s Democratic Alliance, People’s Political Party, Manipur Democratic People’s Front and Good Governance Party, along with unaffiliated individuals and MAMEF members.
Under the resolution adopted at the meeting, the People’s Democratic Alliance, People’s Political Party and Manipur Democratic People’s Front will be member parties, while the Good Governance Party will participate as an associate member. Each party will nominate two representatives to the committee.
Khaidem Mani was appointed Chairperson and Oinam Premdas Convenor of the new body.
The committee also resolved to formulate a Common Minimum Programme covering shared political, social, economic and developmental priorities and providing a framework for coordinated action on issues concerning Manipur.
The parties agreed to work through dialogue, consultation and consensus while retaining their individual identities and organisational autonomy.
