Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today visited the residence of late Chongtham Vikram at Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai in Imphal West and met the bereaved family.
Speaking to Vikram’s family members, the Chief Minister assured them that justice would be delivered and those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying the life of an innocent person who had done no wrong had been lost.
Khemchand Singh met Vikram’s parents, wife and son and assured them of all possible assistance and support from the government.
MLA Khumukcham Joykishan, who accompanied the Chief Minister, said all possible efforts would be made to ensure justice for Vikram. He said various sections had extended support for swift action given the seriousness of the incident.
Joykishan also said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had urged the Delhi Police to file a charge sheet within eight days.
“Justice for Vikram will surely be delivered. We need action so that no Northeastern person becomes a victim of brutal killing or attack in mainland India,” he said.
He said while Vikram’s life could not be brought back, steps must be taken to prevent similar incidents involving people from the Northeast elsewhere in the country.
Chongtham Vikram, a respected musician and music teacher from Manipur, died following a brutal assault at his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi. He is survived by his wife and son.
