Imphal City Police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a man at Thangal Bazar late yesterday evening.
The arrested persons have been identified as Yendrembam Paona Singh (60) and Laishram Ngongo Meitei (39), both residents of Kanglasiphai Makha Leikai in Imphal East district.
According to police, the victim, a native of Borojalenga village in Silchar, Assam, and currently residing at Thangal Bazar, was allegedly killed by slashing his neck with a machete.
Police said the arrests were made during the investigation into an FIR registered at City Police Station in connection with the murder.
During interrogation, Paona Singh allegedly confessed to the crime, telling police that the killing was motivated by revenge following a fallout with the victim over alleged dealings involving ganja. He allegedly travelled to Thangal Bazar with the co-accused with the intention of killing the victim and attacked him with a machete.
Police have seized the blood-stained clothes allegedly worn by Paona Singh at the time of the incident and recovered the two-wheeler reportedly used by the accused to reach the crime scene.
