The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has announced in a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, on its upcoming academic workshop and major educational support initiatives for the students of Manipur.
During the press interaction, USTM has highlighted the one-day academic workshop scheduled for May 23, 2026, at Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal, on the theme “Role of NEP-2020 & Career Opportunities”, along with a special session on “How to Crack the UPSC Examination.”
A key focus of the press conference is USTM’s announcement of free-ship and scholarship schemes for meritorious and underprivileged students of Manipur.
As part of its student-centric outreach, USTM is announcing a comprehensive package of free-ship and scholarship support for students of Manipur. Under the initiative, provision is being made to offer full freeship for four years to 10 students under the BAAG programme, aimed at preparation for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Additionally, up to 10 students enrolled in traditional academic courses are proposed to be granted complete fee waivers, while 30 students may avail a 50 per cent reduction in course fees. Further strengthening its commitment to inclusive education, USTM is also proposing monthly cash scholarships of Rs. 2,000 for 50 students, subject to eligibility and selection criteria. To be eligible for the scholarships and freeship benefits, students must have secured above 70 per cent marks in their qualifying examinations.
The press conference is being addressed by Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM and Senior officials of USTM and academicians associated with the programme, outlining the objectives of the workshop, the scope and eligibility of the freeship and scholarship schemes, and USTM’s continued commitment to student empowerment in the Northeast.
