MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam vows to raise Manipur’s IDP crisis and governance issues in Parliament

Member of Parliament Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has pledged to bring up the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the presence of buffer zones, and governance failures in Manipur during the upcoming session of Parliament.
Speaking to the media at his residence in Keishamthong today, Dr. Bimol invited public input on urgent issues requiring national attention. He specifically highlighted four pressing concerns: the resettlement and dignity of IDPs, the ambiguous buffer zone policy, and instances of misgovernance.
Referring to the state government’s plan to close relief camps by December 2025, Dr. Bimol questioned the transparency and inclusiveness of the resettlement process. “Many displaced people from Moreh and Churachandpur have expressed serious concerns. They’re being shifted to temporary structures, but no one knows how many will be built or if they are sufficient,” he remarked.
Having visited multiple camps, he recounted the ongoing hardships faced by IDPs, including poor access to education, healthcare, and permanent rehabilitation. “It’s been two years. These families still live in uncertainty. I will raise these issues in Parliament to seek justice and dignity for them,” he added.
On the issue of buffer zones, the MP pointed out that despite official denial, restrictions remain in place. “I was recently denied entry to an area within my own constituency. This goes against Article 15 and shows a disturbing communal divide under the guise of peacekeeping,” he said.
Dr. Bimol also criticised administrative shortcomings observed during DISHA meetings and assured that these lapses will be addressed in Parliament. “Through every opportunity—be it speeches or debates—I will speak up. I also encourage citizens to share their concerns so I can represent them more effectively,” he said.
