AR man killed in MPA ambush at Chandel district

At least one personnel of the 24 AR troopers was killed and 2 others were reportedly injured when suspected cadres of the MPA, the army wing of rebel group UNLF ambushed them at Satang Village area near Kwatha under Moreh Police station, near Indo-Myanmar Border in Chandel district at around 6 am today.
According to report reaching here, well armed cadres of the Manipur Peoples’ Army (MPA) today strike ambush to a convoy of 24 AR troopers who were on duty at the area, using sophisticated weapon. The AR trooper too retaliated and the gun-battle between the two groups lasted for nearly 5 hours. The rebels reportedly fled the ambush site after more Assam Rifles troopers reinforced at the site.
The slain AR has been identified as Rifleman Paokholot Baite. Identities of the injured are yet to be identified.
Mention may be made that, the District administration of Ukhrul and Chandel has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC since October 12, this year for a period of 6 months. The prohibitory order was imposed to check cross border movement of insurgence and smuggling of illegal items including arms and drugs.
It may also be reminded that the rebel group UNLF is celebrating its 51st Raising day on November 24, 2015. State Intelligence source input suggested the ambush to have been carried out in connection with the Raising Day of the outfit. It also alerted the security forces both at Hills and plain cautioning more attack from the outfit before November 25.
