Saikhom Rashitombi, representing Manipur University, clinched the bronze medal in the 52kg category at the North Zone Inter-University Judo Tournament 2024-25, currently underway at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab. With this achievement, Rashitombi has also qualified for the All India Inter-University Judo Tournament, scheduled to be held at the same venue from January 15, 2025.
In addition to Rashitombi, four other judokas from Manipur University have qualified for the All India event. The qualifiers include – Kh. Jeniber (66kg category), N. Sanatomba (81kg category), Haobijam Sobhasini (57kg category) and Mutum Roshibina (48kg category).
The athletes’ strong performance at the North Zone tournament highlights the growing prominence of Judo in Manipur’s sports landscape. The team is expected to perform well and bring laurels to the university and the state in the upcoming national-level competition.
