Bodybuilders from Manipur gave an impressive performance in the 16th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship at Batam, Indonesia from November 11 to 17. Four athletes from the state represented India and won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Another result is awaited.
The gold medal in the Junior Bodybuilding Open category was won by Ricky Hawaibam of Royal Gym, Ningomthong, while Chongtham Bluncely Meitei of Ogust Gym, Checkon, captured the silver medal in the same category. Another bodybuilder in the senior category, Sinam Momocha Singh from Ogust Gym, won the bronze medal in the 65 kg senior category.
Thokchom Sanjeeta of World Gym, Yaiskul, who is participating in the Women’s Bodybuilding (up to 55 kg) category, will compete tomorrow; her event result is expected shortly.
The AMBBA, recognized by the Youth Affairs & Sports Department, Government of Manipur, and affiliated to the Indian Body Builders Federation, was proud of the achievements of the athletes. AMBBA General Secretary Yumlembam Sunanta urged media persons to highlight the achievements in local media to inspire more youth toward fitness and healthy development.
The championship continues till November 17 and the Manipur contingent is optimistic for more success.
