Manipur’s athletes have clinched a remarkable 6 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals at the 1st North East Para Sports Meet 2024, which kicked off on November 27 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. The state’s contingent, consisting of 16 players and 6 officials, is participating under the guidance of the Paralympic Committee Manipur.
As of today, Manipur athletes have excelled in both Athletics and Badminton events. Gold medals were secured by Ralpi Angrungkham in Badminton, Hirom Manoj Singh in Shotput, Khwairakpam Joykumar in Visual Impairment, and Md. Bahaudin in the 400-meter and 200-meter races. Md. Bahaudin also earned a Silver in the 100-meter race. Khwairakpam Joykumar added another Gold in Discus Throw, while Hirom Manoj Singh earned Silver in the same event.
The Manipur contingent is being led by Dr. Kiran Yendrembam, who has been appointed as the Chief-de-Mission (Head of the Squad/Manager) for the team. Birendra Singh Kangjam, President of the Paralympic Committee Manipur, is serving as the Head Coach. Guru Aribam Ranjan is designated as an official, with Moirangthem Sandhya Devi taking on the role of Incharge for the Manipur State Para Squad (Women). Ksh. Kenorish and Moirangthem Nina Devi are also part of the official team as Assistant Officials.
