Athletes from Manipur, representing India at the 7th Heroes Taekwondo International Championship held in Bangkok from August 10 to August 12, 2024, delivered an impressive performance. The event saw participation from 29 countries, showcasing intense competition and high-level skill.
Malemnganba Nungleppam, a member of the Laira Fighters Club, Uripok, under the banner of the All Manipur Taekwondo Association (AMTA), made his mark by winning a Bronze Medal in the Peewee Boys under 23kg category. He further distinguished himself by securing a Silver Medal in the Poomsae individual event.
Adding to the team’s success, Edison Konthoujam, who also served as the coach for the squad, clinched a Silver Medal in the Senior Male under 80kg category, demonstrating his prowess in both coaching and competition.
Other participants from the club included Thoithoiba Yumnam, who competed in the first round of the Subjunior under 31kg category, and Moirangthem Sanahal, who reached the quarterfinals in the Senior Male under 63kg category.
The achievements of these athletes have brought pride to Manipur and highlighted the state’s growing presence in the international taekwondo scene.
