The inaugural North East Para Sports Meet 2024, which commenced on November 27, culminated on November 29 in a closing ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. The three-day event brought together para-athletes from across the Northeast, competing in various categories and earning accolades in Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
Manipur’s delegation stood out with an exceptional performance, comprising eight para-athletes and six officials. The team participated under the leadership of Dr. Kiran Yendrembam, serving as Chief-De-Mission, and Birendra Singh Kangjam, the President of the Paralympic Committee, Manipur, who also took on the role of Head Coach. Manipur’s athletes collectively won an impressive total of 12 medals, showcasing their prowess across multiple disciplines.
Among the achievements, Ralpi Angrungkham secured a Gold medal in the SL-3 category of badminton, while Naorem Tarzan Singh earned a Bronze medal in the SH-6 category. In shot put, Khwairakpam Joykumar Singh claimed Gold in the T-12/F-12 category, with Hirom Manoj Singh taking Silver in the T/F-40/41 category.
The race events saw Md. Bahudin dominating the T-46/47 category, winning Gold in the 400m and 200m races, alongside a Silver medal in the 100m race. In discus throw, Khwairakpam Joykumar Singh added another Gold in the T-12/F-12 category, and Hirom Manoj Singh won Bronze in the T/F-40/41 category. Khwairakpam Joykumar Singh also earned a Silver medal in the T-12/F-12 category for long jump.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Organizing President Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, and key officials from the Paralympic Committee of India.
