The 1st District Olympic Games 2025 was inaugurated today at the Kodompoki Sports Complex in Wangjing, Thoubal District. Organized by the Manipur Olympic Association through the District Olympic Association, Thoubal, and supported by the District Administration, the 28-day event aims to promote sports and unity among youth in the district.
The Games were formally inaugurated by DC Thoubal, Hannah Kamei-IAS, who led the March Past of participating athletes. Wushu Arjuna Awardee W. Sandhyarani Devi performed the ceremonial lighting at the main venue after a demonstration at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex. The opening also featured a football match between HKKSA, Haokha Kiyam, and PATHAP FC, Lilong.
Sunil Elangbam, President of the Manipur Olympic Association, DIG Range-II Jogeshchandra Haobijam, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. M. Veto Singh, SP Thoubal Shivanand Surve IPS, CO 3rd IRB S. Hemanta Singh, and L. Marjitkumar Singh, State Director of Mera Yuva Bharat, Manipur, were among the dignitaries present.
The Games will feature a wide range of sports including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Wushu, Sepak Takraw, Mukna, Polo, Jeet Kune Do, Wrestling, Shooting, and Karate.
Addressing the gathering, DC Thoubal emphasized that the Games are designed to foster talent, encourage sportsmanship, and strengthen unity across the district. He expressed confidence that the event would provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and contribute to the growth of sports culture in Thoubal.
