Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has praised the rollout of GST 2.0, calling it a landmark reform that will strengthen India’s economy and ease the financial burden on citizens. Addressing the media at the BJP Manipur Pradesh office, Sanajaoba commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for introducing a simplified Goods and Services Tax structure.
The revised GST system reduces the previous four-tier slab—5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%—to a more streamlined two-tier structure of 5% and 18%. According to Sanajaoba, this change will make essential goods more affordable and has already led to price reductions on over 375 items, including automobiles, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.
He described the reform as a “festival gift” to the people, aligning with the government’s commitment to inclusive development. Sanajaoba emphasized that GST 2.0 will benefit India’s 140 crore citizens, particularly middle-class families and small businesses, by making everyday products more accessible.
The MP also highlighted the reform’s potential to boost domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative and support the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said GST 2.0 is a key step toward realizing the Prime Minister’s goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat mission.
Sanajaoba concluded by stating that the new tax structure will empower consumers and producers alike, marking a significant shift toward a more equitable and growth-oriented economy.
