WAMA announces plans to celebrate Ningol Chakouba with Relief Camp visits

IT News
Imphal, Oct 31:

Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) has announced plans to celebrate this year’s Ningol Chakouba by visiting Meitei women in relief camps, marking a significant gesture of solidarity amidst ongoing recovery efforts following the violence in Manipur.
Last year, Ningol Chakouba — a festival symbolizing the bond between brothers and sisters, where married women are invited to their parental homes — could not be celebrated due to the turmoil that erupted in May 2023. This year, while the situation has improved somewhat, WAMA aims to honor the spirit of Ningol Chakouba by reaching out to displaced women who are currently residing in relief camps.
According to WAMA’s statement, they will conduct special visits in early November to offer support, gifts, and share a meal with the women affected by the crisis, ensuring that the festival’s traditions and warmth reach those in difficult circumstances. The organization also emphasized the importance of unity and compassion, urging the public to recognize the significance of the festival as a moment to reconnect with cultural roots and extend support to those impacted by the conflict.
Ningthoujam Debeswor Meetei, Secretary of Publicity for WAMA, stated that this celebration will act as a bridge to bring some relief and normalcy to the lives of displaced Meitei women.
