Two held with over 1 Kg suspected brown sugar in Imphal East

Two individuals were arrested and more than one kilogram of suspected brown sugar was seized during a joint anti-narcotics operation conducted in Imphal East district on Thursday evening.
According to official sources, reliable information was received at around 5:50 p.m. regarding the distribution of narcotic drugs in the Yairipok Yambem area under Andro Police Station. Acting on the tip-off and after obtaining necessary authorization, a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Imphal East Unit and the Commando Unit of Imphal East launched a frisking and checking operation near the gate of Yambem High School under proper supervision.
During the operation, at around 6:54 p.m., the team detained two persons riding a Honda Dio scooter bearing registration number MN06SX5443. The scooter was reportedly travelling from Yairipok Ningthounai towards Yambem Primary Health Centre.
A search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of a Gazetted Officer. During the search, one black plastic polythene concealed inside a green plastic polythene containing suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 1.04 kilograms, including packaging, was recovered from the scooter’s toolbox.
The detained individuals were identified as Md. Najimuddin (31) of Yairipok Ningthounai Mathak Leikai and Md. Jabir (27) of Yairipok Ningthounai in Imphal East district.
Police also seized two mobile phones with SIM cards and the Honda Dio scooter used by the accused.
Both individuals were formally arrested at around 7:05 p.m., and the seized items were taken into possession under Section 43 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Andro Police Station for further legal action.
