SUK to organize State-Level Mukna Competition

The Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has announced plans to host a state-level Mukna (wrestling) competition, themed ‘Enatki Masanna Yokkatsi’, on May 18th and 19th. The event, slated to take place at the Manipur University Indoor Hall, aims to celebrate and preserve the indigenous wrestling tradition of Manipur.
Moirangthem Basko Chanu, Secretary, Health and Sports of SUK, revealed details of the competition in a press briefing. The tournament will feature two weight categories: below 60 kg and above 60 kg. With a focus on promoting sportsmanship and talent, the competition offers substantial prizes, with the first prize winner receiving thirty thousand rupees, the second prize winner twenty thousand rupees, and the third prize winner ten thousand rupees. Additionally, all winners will be honored with certificates and mementos.
Interested participants are encouraged to collect registration forms from the SUK head office starting May 1, 2024. Chanu emphasized SUK’s commitment to safeguarding Manipur’s indigenous games, hinting at future events to promote other traditional sports.
