SUK announces state-level spelling

The Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has announced the 2026 editions of the State-Level Spelling Competition and the All Kangleipak Ancient Manipuri Language (Kanglei-lon) Meaning Competition to promote linguistic excellence and preserve the state’s indigenous language.

Addressing media, SUK officials said the competitions, organised annually since 2011, aim to nurture students’ talents while encouraging the preservation and promotion of the Manipuri language and its ancient vocabulary.

The State-Level Spelling Competition will be held in two categories—Classes V to VII and Classes VIII to X—while the Ancient Manipuri Language competition will be open to students up to the postgraduate level.

Winners in each category will receive cash prizes of Rs.20,000, Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000 for first, second and third places respectively, along with certificates and mementoes. Consolation prizes will also be awarded to all finalists.

The preliminary rounds are scheduled to begin on August 30, followed by subsequent rounds in September. SUK appealed to eligible students across the state to participate in the competitions and contribute to the preservation of Manipur’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
