A joint security team comprising Kakching District commandos, personnel from the 33 Assam Rifles, and Hiyanglam Police conducted a search operation in Sekmaijin Hangool Mayai Leikai, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, according to official sources.
The operation, carried out based on reliable intelligence, resulted in the seizure of weapons including a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) without a magazine, a single-barrel gun, a homemade 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, a country-made .32 pistol, and three high-explosive hand grenades without detonators. Additional items confiscated included a tube launcher, live and empty cartridges, various shells, and grenades.
The team also recovered tactical equipment, such as a wireless set, two bulletproof vests, a pair of tactical boots, and a bulletproof helmet. The seized items were handed over to the Hiyanglam police station for further investigation and legal action.
In a separate operation earlier in the week, security forces intensified search and area domination efforts across vulnerable parts of Manipur, particularly in the fringe areas of hill and valley districts. These efforts led to the recovery of another substantial arms cache in Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
In Bishnupur’s Thong Khong Lok village near Khunjarok Nala, authorities unearthed a large number of arms, including a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with a magazine, a .303 rifle, a 12-bore single-barrel gun, two 9mm pistols with magazines, an anti-riot gun, two INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG) magazines, and two INSAS rifle magazines.
