SAYOKA celebrates 45th Anniversary

The Sahitya Yokhat Kanglup (SAYOKA) celebrated its 45th anniversary today with an event held at Tentha Multiplex, commemorating its establishment on October 10, 1978. The literary association honoured this milestone by presenting the prestigious Thomas Hardy Ningshing Mana 2024 to writer Salam Tomba for his contributions to Manipuri literature.
The award, sponsored by Kabiraj Moirangthem Rajendro, was given to Salam Tomba in recognition of his work Toubul Diary. The award includes a shawl, citation, memento, and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
The ceremony also featured special mentions of Dr. Moirangthem Priyobratta Singh, recipient of the B.M. Novel Award 2024, and Rakesh Naorem, who was honoured with the Best Short Film Director Award 2024.
Tongbram Babulal, President of Khorirol Sandok Lup, Kartik Maiba, President of SAYOKA and A. K. Devendro, President of Manipuri Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal attended the function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
In his presidential address, SAYOKA’s President Kartik Maiba stressed the significance of SAYOKA’s journey, saying, “Since our humble beginnings 45 years ago, SAYOKA has grown into a flourishing literary organization. Through initiatives like our annual literary award, we continue to contribute to the growth of Manipuri literature.”
Born on May 14, 1946, in Toubul Awang Leikai, Salam Tomba has made invaluable contributions to Manipuri literature over the years, with more than 30 published works to his name.
