The 117th Major Chongtham Miya Commemoration Day was observed with great reverence at Loktak Hall, Manipur Press Club, Imphal, where the prestigious Miya Warrior Award was posthumously conferred upon Saikhom Sanjit Kumar Singh @ Subol. The award recognized his exceptional courage and bravery in combating illegal immigrants to safeguard the state of Manipur, particularly during a critical encounter at Kangchup Hill.
The event, organized by the United Chongthas, paid homage to Major Chongtham Miya, a valiant figure who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the erstwhile Manipur nation while fighting against the formidable British colonial army.
The ceremony was presided over by notable dignitaries, including Ch. Manglemjao Meetei, Chief Patron; Yumnam Ningol Thonganam Ongbi Ibethoi, Chief Advisor of Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL); and Chongtham Lukhoi Meetei, Advisor of United Chongthas, serving as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and President, respectively.
Speakers at the event highlighted the enduring legacy of Major Chongtham Miya, who remains a symbol of resistance and patriotism in Manipur’s history. They emphasized the importance of commemorating his sacrifice to inspire future generations to defend the state’s sovereignty and heritage.
The posthumous recognition of Saikhom Sanjit Kumar Singh further underscored the bravery and selflessness of individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting the state. The award was accepted on behalf of his family amidst a solemn yet proud atmosphere.
