Safai Karmachari Sangh urges IMC to act on pending demands

The Safai Karmachari Sangh Manipur, the apex body of sanitary workers in the State, adopted several resolutions during its winter meet held yesterday at the Sangh office, expressing hope in the four Labour Codes. The meeting was presided over by the President of the Sangh, Thokchom Sanatombi Devi.
According to a press statement issued by the Joint Secretary of the Sangh, Yumnam Sandhyarani, the winter meet resolved to urge the Imphal Municipal Corporation to address the present condition of the Safai Karmacharis and safeguard their rights. The Sangh also called for the implementation of pending conciliation proceedings and agreements by the employers.
The meeting further resolved to urge the authorities to fill vacant regular posts of Safai Karmacharis and to extend all benefits provided under the four Labour Codes. It also demanded the clearance of backlog salaries and arrears of the Safai Karmacharis.
The winter meet appointed new executive members in addition to the existing body. Speaking at the meeting, President Thokchom Sanatombi Devi stated that the Sangh would urge all concerned authorities to take up the long-pending demand for the establishment of the Manipur State Safai Karmachari Commission at the earliest.
Joint Secretary Yumnam Sandhyarani stated that the Sangh would continue to work for the welfare of the State and for securing appropriate wages for Safai Karmacharis. She reiterated that the Sangh has full faith in the four Labour Codes and appealed to all concerned to cooperate with the Labour Department, which functions as a mechanism under the Manipur State Industrial Relations framework, for the welfare of the Safai Karmacharis.
