A two-day regional-level workshop cum training programme on honey processing, organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, commenced today. The event is jointly hosted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bishnupur, Utlou, and the Manipur Beekeepers’ Federation.
The workshop was inaugurated by an esteemed panel, including Partha Mandal, General Manager of Shillong NABARD Regional Office, Imphal; former Union Minister and ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Padmashree Th. Chaoba Singh, who also serves as the Chairman of KVK Bishnupur, Utlou; Prof. N. Mohilal Meitei, Director of CDC, Manipur University; S. Nilakamal, President of the Manipur Beekeepers’ Federation; and Dr. Kh. Brajamani Meetei, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Bishnupur.
During his address, Padmashree Th. Chaoba emphasized the potential of beekeeping as a low-investment venture that could be initiated with support from financial institutions. He highlighted the medicinal properties of honey, describing it as a natural elixir for a long and healthy life. Chaoba encouraged participants to explore beekeeping as a viable livelihood option and a means to generate income.
