Imphal, Jan 5:
Demonstrations against the killing of a village defender and the arrest of six others on December 14 intensified today as the government remained silent on the incident. Members of the women’s group, Meira Paibi, from Haobam Marak Irom Leikai staged a sit-in protest at the Naharol Yaifa Lamjingkol Club ground in Imphal West district.
The protesters condemned the killing and demanded the immediate release of the six detained individuals. Holding placards and banners, they denounced the use of excessive force and urged authorities to take responsibility for the incident.
“We are deeply concerned about the rising violence and the lack of accountability from the authorities,” a protester stated, emphasizing the urgent need for justice and transparency in handling such cases.
The demonstrators called for a fair and thorough investigation into the shooting, stressing that the government’s inaction only exacerbates public outrage. Through the protest, the Meira Paibi aimed to highlight the plight of the victims and push for concrete steps to ensure justice is served.
No official response has yet been received from the government regarding the demands of the protesters.
